Seattle's 6th Annual Polar Bear Plunge!

This is the place to sign-in and share your experience jumping in Lake Washington.
We want to hear from you!
What's your name?
Where are you from?
How old are you (optional)?
Was this your first?
How did you like it?
Will we see you next year, and the year after that?

Please keep it clean. We want kids to be able to participate here too.
Thanks!

ok, I've always wanted to do this. I'm 48, no time like the present. I'll be there!

Yeah! It's working!!! Peaple are actually finding the blog and using it!
FYI
I just stopped by Matthews Beach and it was so beautiful. 38 degrees outside and probably 40 degrees in the water.

Would you happen to know if there will be another Polar Bear Plunge at Clarke Beach this year? (In previous years, it was at noon.)

Also the Seattle Times web site has a bad link back to the Seattle Parks department (just remove the ! in "!aquatics")

What time do you all suggest getting there to register? On the Seattle Parks and Rec site it says up to 1000 swimmers can participate, so I don't want to be left out!
Thanks!

Great family fun, and for us middle age folks, too! Thanks for a lovely kick off to 2008.

Thank you for a wonderful event! Now look at the patch carefully and you will see that the polar bear has a nice darker blue "package" between his legs. You will never be able to look at the patch the same way again.

Janet - let's get an official Polar Bear CLUB going - maybe have available a bucket to donate to World Wildlife Fund or something. This was my first plunge - it was remarkably fun! Dove in and SWAM - not like some of those wimps who only dip. Grandpa was in Antarctica, Dad was in Alaska - I guess doing silly things in the cold runs in the family. I thought we had to register, but no - they just gave bracelets. Definitely NEED MORE PRESS AHEAD OF TIME!

The water is so cold it feels like it is burning, but once out, I am overwhelmed by a blissed-out sense of well-being that lasts all day. Beats drugs.

45 years old and this is my second year. Finally, a good use for that "extra" layer of insulation I carry around with me! There's something about complete immersion, then surfacing and gasping for breath that makes for a great start to the new year. :-)

I'm with Carol Ann -- would love to raise money to support the real polar bears and their habitat in the Arctic. If anyone wants to start a club, I'm in!

I think I have "plunged" all but the first year. I have been joined by family a couple of years. My most fun is working with janet and crew and seeing all the people arriving. They come from all directions around the park. I know there are many more people than we give out wrist bands. Thank you STARBUCKS!! For many years we would make coffee and hot chocolate at home and put it all in borrowed hot pots etc for the polar bears to drink after their plunge. It was much more relaxing with the professionals handling the coffee drinks. (andeesmom)
